Early P-51's were Allison V12 (under)powered.
After they switched to the Merlin's, the Plane really came into it's own.
You are very right, very distinct and wonderful sounds are the Merlin and Ma
Deuce.
Amazing that after all these years Military forces around the world still use
the M2 .50 cal.
