After hurricanes Wilma and Katrina in 2005, there was a shortage of drywall to
make repairs to homes in Southern Florida so Chinese-made drywall was
imported. Iron disulfide was used in its manufacture and it is now giving off
carbonyl sulfide and carbon disulfide fumes, corroding wires, pipes, air
conditioning components, and bathroom fixtures. Some homes are inhabitable.
It was made by Knauf Plasterboard (Tianjin) of Knauf International GmbH and
imported by Taishan Gypsum. The Chinese manufacturing fiasco continues.
