Sorry, the question of what continent Hawaii is on was meant to be a joke.
Actually, I think it is a part of N.A. I remember flying over a big lake on
the west side of California to get there. (Ahem... another joke.)

Actually, Hawaii is not on a continent at all, or maybe it sits on its own
private continent made of recent lava flows from a hot-spot in the mantle
beneath the basaltic oceanic crust. There is currently a new island forming
over a hot-spot in the south as the older islands drift northward. It has
not yet reached the surface.
Hawaii gained statehood in August of 1959, making it the same age as
Bugeyes. My wife remembers seeing a very badly sunburned President
Eisenhower driving by in an open limo at that time.
