I would hook up a "Pep Boys" in-line PCV valve and put some rubber seals on
the intake valves and call it good (or at least give it a try). It's cheap and
usually effective in cases of smoke.
--Also Frank- did you check the system voltage as you were trying the blinkers
with the lights on? Low voltage (a questionable generator/regulator) will also
cause that.
