It has to do with the vapor pressure of the oil; motor oil is pretty good,
even 5W or 10W. That's also why we don't use WD-40 (gone overnight). The 1
7/8" SU on my H-D Shovelhead runs with NO oil, by design.

used 10 and 20 wt from various sources as well as Marvel Oil. All
seem to give a faster response but also have to be topped up more
often. My guess is that the lighter oil, including 3 in 1, gets
