Ricky,
First, the axles twist as they break and can be quite difficult to get the
stub out. I know a gut who rigged up a LONG chunk of rebar to drive the stub
out from the other side. In any event, you should probably pull the center
section out to be sure all of the debris is cleaned out.
Second, the axles built after they stopped building Sprites (1972 and newer)
tend to be stronger than the earlier ones, ESPECIALLY the ones in the
Bugeyes.
