Earlier, someone asked about spray foam for dead spaces. The objection was
the possibility of trapping water. But the spring boxes are open at the
bottom and should drain easily, so maybe this is a good location for foam.
It would have to be a bit flexible or it would crack with small movements.
The urethane foam I have used around the house may be too brittle in thick
pieces. Thin layers would be fine. It sticks to clean surfaces *very*
tenaciously.
