David,
Your best bet is to start with the appropriate wiring diagram for your
car, and trace each circuit, from the tail lamps forward, until you find
the fault. A simple, 12v test lamp will help you find out where you
have power and where you don't. You may need a helper, to push the
brake pedal.
While I do NOT consider myself to be a "sparky" (electrical systems
guy), I have had great results from using a very thorough, deliberate,
systematic approach to finding electrical faults.

Subject: [Spridgets] Electrical Problem
Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well and your Spridgets are running
great!
My '79 has a problem that I have tinkered with for months but have never
cracked the nut. It is a problem also that keeps the car off the road:
no brake lights and no signal lights. The headlights and taillights
work just fine.
I have spent a lot of time on my knees pulling and reconnecting and
soldering the wires in the boot, hoping to find that one disconnect that
might be causing this malady. Just before I noticed the problem, I had
replaced the engine after rebuilding the tranny, if that is a clue. I
also found a 4-way connector that has 3 black wires and 1 RED wire
running into it, but I don't think that is the problem. I think that is
the product of a ham-fisted previous owner who had a piece of red wire
instead of black. It runs into the harness (homemade--not mine) so I
don't know yet where it goes.
Any ideas? Is there a progression I should be going through to find
the problem? Thanks for any input.
