I noticed that my oil filter assembly is not quite right today - at
least according to the books. I have the 1098 engine with the
canister filter for a paper or felt type filter. Paper being used.

1) It is missing (I think) a sealing washer between the bolt and the
canister bottom.
2) It is missing the steel and felt washers (Moss #'s 435-570 and
435-560) between the top of the spring and the bottom of the filter plate.
3) The filter plate appears to be homemade. It is a disk of aluminum
- tight fit for the bolt and about the outside diameter of a filter
element. The original filter plates appear to have a dome through
which the bolt passes. (Moss # 435-150) Because it isn't domed I
suppose the force of the spring on the filter plate is greater than stock.

Outside of the steel and felt washers it looks like the setup should
work - with maybe a bit of leakage between the bolt and the plate,
but the fit is tight so not much leakage. The spring is there to
press the homemade plate tight to the filter bottom.

Does anyone foresee any significant problems with this setup?
Do I really need the felt washer?
Is the washer between the bolt and the canister just a copper crush washer?
