Regarding some of the recent emails lamenting the position of Sprites and
Midgets in the Big Healey and MG families, clubs, and magazines, there was
a magazine a few years ago called Sprite/Midget that concentrated on just
"our" cars. Unfortunately, it failed after a few issues. They also did one
on MGBs with the same result.
The magazine came about because of the success of the first one,
Spitfire/GT6, which is still going strong. They have a great web site at
www.triumphspitfire.com. John Goethert and Tom Broberg, of Profiles
Marketing Group in Knoxville, TN who started it, thought the Sprite Midget
and MGB communities would support a marque specific magazine even more
strongly than the Spitfire people. But, I guess they were wrong!
I know all this because, in addition to my major hobby of vintage racing my
1967 Midget and maintaining my '72, I write articles for about a dozen
magazines, including race coverage, shows, features, and technical
articles. I was really excited about SpriteMidget and disappointed when
they closed it down. Howard Baugues edits the Spitfire mag out of Terre
Haute, IN and has made it a great success. I don't know why SpriteMidget
could not have done the same.
