Charlie,
I have a Vermont Casting stove in the living room of my old house in IL.
Our farm house in WI has 2 furnaces... side by side. One oil, the other
wood. Both are tied into the fan & ducting of the house. The firebrick in
the wood furnace really holds heat. Some firebrick in your barrel stove
might be a good addition.
Oh, and burn hardwood.

That I do know as we heat our home with a cast iron wood insert, my thought
was to put a 30gal barrel inside this one and fill it with masonary sand or
about 1/2 or so, as It would have some mass at that point, so the fire would
burn on the inner barrel and then go to the chimney. Make sense? I have a
propane heater that heats the area you are working in VERY well, this kit
was on sale so thought humm why not try it.
Charlie
all very good comments.
