1st, you could just send him the link at the bottom of EVERY list post:

OR
He can send a mail TO: spridgets-request@autox.team.net with NO "Subject:"
and just the word subscribe in the body. Rest is automatic.
The same TO: is also used to unsubscribe from the List.
