W98 and USB are not very good bed fellows. That was just the begining of
the USB revolution and W98 had minimal support for USB. I've not ever had
much luck in applying USB devices to that OS, and I do this for a living,
not to say it can't be done just not always best.
To answer your question, there are many laser type printers that still
support a parallel port. I've seen some lasers much cheaper than many ink
jets, and you have a longer life as well as a lower cost of ownership. If
you can let me know what you plan to do with the printer I can do some
research for you.
