I was in a machineshop today that does lots of V-8s, and he pointed out to me
that he doesn't use any exhaust manifold gasket at all. He mills the exhaust
manifold and head faces flat and bolts them up. He uses a thin smear of a red
silicone product for "insurance". I was surprised to see that a silicone
product could take exhaust manifold temperatures.

Does anyone have experience using a silicone product on the spridget
intake/exhaust manifolds? The turbo manifold I just finished for the turbo
bugeye isn't as flat as I would have liked and I'd like some insurance if
possible. In the past, I used two manifold gaskets, dry, as always. If this
stuff actually works, it might be nice. Enough milling to flatten the exhaust
manifold face would thin the flange to where I'd have to thin the intake
manifold as well to get good clamping. A sucessful sealant would be much
easier in this case.

Thanks,
Glen Byrns
