What is that thing above the dizzy in the pics?

That hose on the valve cover goes to the charcoal can.  There should
probably be some vacuum coming from the charcoal can to the intake.

When all is said and done, you want good PCV (crankcase ventilation).  If
you feel a slight vacuum on the dipstick hole then you are probably good.  I
would lose everything non-essential, charcoal canister included.
