Greg,

Pistons are the only difference.  The "L" engine has (was  
manufactured with) deeper dish pistons making it a lower compression  
than the "H".

Many of these engines have already been rebuilt in their lifetime.   
So, the pistons in the engine may not be what the tag on the engine  
tells you.

You can change the compression of a 1275cc engine depending on the  
pistons you use when you rebuild it.
