I may have to disagree with you on this. I think the pressed lip area of
the trunk opening actually makes the car stronger than the flat sheet metal
of a Bugeye. The bulkhead would just add to the integrity. I think the
Sprite was the original budget sports car and therefore had no trunk lid or
rollup windows, etc. When they realized that they could sell them for a
little more with some additional stuff on them, then they added trunk lids
and roll up windows, etc.
