Here's part of my original post from the archives:

I mounted (by hand) a new set of 175 70 13s on the wire-wheeled '72
Midget. About $160 from Sam's. They fit and look nice. They are a
little shorter than the 155 80s but wider in the tread. Now the tread
spans about the same width as the rim. I mounted them myself(with much
help from a friend) by hand because after cleaning and prepping the
wires for painting, I realized how easily they could be damaged by
knuckle-heads with power tools."
I am pretty sure that wires are 13X4 so you shouldn't have any trouble with
putting that size on steel wheels or wires.
