I just use some sprayable polyester resin type stuff called "Slick Sand".
I also had to buy a different gun to spray this stuff or at least a
really big nozzle for my old gun. Since the old one was getting kind of
beat up, I bought the new gun.
I sprayed the firewall, bonnet underside, and most of the engine
compartment with this stuff.
Sanded it down today and it turned my rust pitted pock marked metal into
a slicker than monkey snot smooth finish.
I even used this stuff on the rear axle banjo because it was all pitted.
Not anymore. I painted the axle black and it looks better than new.
Maybe because I smoothed out some of those factory imperfection too.
Other progress on the 58 is a rear deck as smooth as a baby's behind
which I thought was never going to happen. The deck was so wavey a
surfer would have a blast on it.
I made the right side rear patch behind the wheel because the AH spares
I used on the left was a mess.
Mine came out better than the store bought. I am glad they backordered
the right side.
I made the B post dog legs too.
It's a down hill ride for the rest of the body work on the tub. The
bonnet is only semi finished on the insdie. I still have to mount it and
make it right before I start body working on that.
I am still shooting for a painted Bugeye before Christmas.
That will give me all of January to put it together and do the interior.
It'll be cold out in the garage in January so I'll take my time ;)
