Ribcase tranny overhaul

My bug-eye with a ribcase trans pops out of first gear.  I'm told first is
likely worn.  Is there someone out there who specializes in repairing these
things?  My Tiger has a Ford Toploader tranny and there is a guy in San
Antonio who will swap your old one for a totally rebuilt one.  Any similar
service available for the Sprite? What is the chance I can overhaul this
thing myself without screwing it up?  Thanks.
