When I restore a car, I do it ALL.
Tonight after dark and I could not see to weld anymore, I started
working on the wiper wheel boxes from the 58 Sprite.
They were just about frozen.
They come apart! Drive the gear DOWN using a flat suitable punch from
the top of the knurled knob (where the wiper arm goes)
Clean it up, oil it up, and for that crusty old rubber umbrella that
used to be over the stem, I took an extra 1275 valve seal from a spare
head gasket set, sliced it down to size (from 1/2" to about a 1/4") and
it worked perfect as a new seal.
Reinsert the gear in the wheel box, tap the knurled head back on with a
SMALL hammer and using a pointed punch, duplicate the original 3 edge
punches to keep the knurled knob on the stem.

Since you have the wheel boxes out and apart, grease up the wiper rack
with white lithium grease too, clean out the wiper motor and grease that
gear too.
I bench tested the assembly and I think this 58 will have real wipers.
