On the frame rails just ahead of the sway bar mounting points there is a
single 7/16" course thread captive nut in each rail. What is/was that used
for. I assume that is a fixture that was important to the Bugeyes and a
unused holdover for later model cars??? Anyhow, I am replacing metal in
this area so have spent some time studying them. I was surprised at how
small (not much more than tacks) the welds are for the bumper attaching
points (The threaded captive mounts) , the sway bar mounts, etc. If you
regularly use these factory mounting points for a tow bar for flat towing,
I'd recommend checking everything up there carefully for tears and cracks.
