In the course of getting my Sprite ready for the BusterCluster, I was
faced with the need to replace the deteriorated interior rubber door
panels. Thanks to some suggestions from the list, I found the black
runner material in the Home Disaster carpet section to be an amost
perfect match. It had nine ridges per inch compared to the original six
per inch.
There were many suggestions here to get the color as close to the
original red as possible. However, I found that by Rustoleum Paint for
Plastic Primer, followed by its Claret Wine was remarkable good, and
both flexible and durable.
It is best to use some newspaper to make a pattern, then apply silicone
sealer on the back with a wide putty knife. After applying the material
to the door and rolling out any clumps of silicone sealer, I had as good
a set of interior panels as I could ask for.
