Hi Frank,

I'm sure your motor project will work.  I would not be surprised if it
worked as well as a "normal" rebuild.  A-series motors are like tractor
motors, once you know their little nuances, (and you do, don't you?) you can
make them work great.  Little things like cam/lifter wear on "mis-matched"
parts are negligible on those little fourbangers.
