They got big and heavy! The latest Civic is easy more that twice as big
as one from 25 years ago, with the attendant crash structure, airbags,
sensors, power windows, locks, nav system, and all the heavy copper
wiring that goes with it. Plus more sound insulation.
The "mighty '91 Tercel" from the BABE rally got about 38mpg or so, but
it's not much bigger than it's first incarnation in 1980, and has no
power steering, no power locks, no power windows, no airbags, and (much
to our discomfort in Alabama) no AC.
Anyone know the mpg numbers for the new Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris?
