Hi Hal,
Careful, one of the nuts is left hand treaded. That's backward to us right
handers. Just ran into this same thing on Puddles my 60 bugeye. My local
friend at the shop recommended penning the axle. Take a punch and leave punch
marks on random parts of the axle bearing mount. This swells the fit a little
so the bearing is a tight fit. I just did it on mine and it seems to work real
well. no more leaks. It also took me two days to spin on the hub nut to the
axle. That is until I looked real close to see it was a backwards thread.
