Why do they charge $600 for an alternator? ..... Because they CAN!
Same as why do people pay $4000 for a Rolex when they can buy a good watch
comparable in almost every way for under $500?
My uncle had his own garage years ago. One of his customers owned a
Mercedes and told him a story of one time when he took it to the dealer for
repairs. The dealer quoted him a high price for replacement of a simple
part. He raised some objection, and the mechanic told him "if you can't
afford this car then you don't need it". To me this meant that these cars
are not for the masses, but for the people that can spend the money on them.
"Hey, look at me, I can AFFORD to spend lots of money on this car."
