Safer in "some" circumstances. They're more prone to rollover, but safer in a
head on, especially a head on with a smaller vehicle.

I read somewhere that SUVs are evolving and there is at least one that adjusts
it's suspension as the speed increases. I believe that it lowers and stiffens,
but I could be wrong.

Our freeways are packed with SUV's, and most are not even the kind of SUV that
could go offroad, they are just big minivans or pickups with covered beds. It
has always been my contention that 90% of these people would be better off with
a sedan or station wagon. Safer, more comfortable, less expensive, better gas
mileage. What would be the downside? Oh yeah, "image" is the downside.

I was in the local "quick change" place waiting for my state inspection when I
overheard one woman talking to another about how she had flipped her new pickup
and totalled it. This woman lived in the city, and probably had no more
business with a pickup than I have with an igloo.

I get a kick out of the people that drive big tough vehicles, then they have to
slow down to a crawl to go over railroad tracks.
