I was being facetious... About 15 or 20 years ago some
meteorologists began referring to "explosively deepening, strongly
baroclinic low pressure systems" as "bombs". As they always do, the
media people overheard this "slang" term and began using it for any
large low pressure system hoping to sound erudite. The illusion of
knowledge, if you will.
