Now that I've bought one, I've learned a little bit from the folks at
Bell .... For future reference, because it will do no good for any of
us now...
I asked the bell mfg people if helmets could be relined/ re
certified etc... they absolutley will not do it... (say its illegal)...
However, at least for Bell, if we drop one, have an accident etc.,
we can send the helmet to them for free checking. They told me that
if there is any damage they will automatically offer us a "substantial
discount" on a new helmet. I do not know what they consider
substantial, but had I realized this a few years ago when I was in an
accident, I probably would have sent the helmet in, and might now have
been wearing a 2000 instead of a 95 and get a little more time out of
it.
I doubt we can send our 2000s in now for a discount even if they
are not perfect, as they are out of date, but it seems like a good
thing to keep in mind for future reference.
I would imagine any decent helmet manufacturer would probably have
a similar program...
Just food for thought...
