I am working on replacing a few spokes in wire wheels. I have a donor wheel
from which I am "harvesting" spokes and nipples. As I understand it, the
threads on spokes are rolled. It is my understanding that I should NOT
clean up the spoke threads by running a die over them.
Now, for the nipples, I assume they must have been cut with a tap. So, I
assume that I could chase the threads in the nipples without any problems.
I do know there is such a thing as a cutting tap and a chasing tap and that
a chasing tap should be used to clean the threads. I'm not going to that
extent and will use a cutting tap.
Am I on the right track here? I don't want to end up with ill fitting
spokes by following the above process.
(My e-mail program has flagged a word in this message because it thinks my
