Having run fender mounts since 1967 I would disagree that door mounts
are better by default. But the bottom line is which arrangement is
most comfortable for you. For me arrangements that minimize eye
movement and provide over 140 degrees of rear vision are most
desirable. Fender mounts allow me to keep my eyes on the road ahead
and with almost no change in eye focus or movement to see what is
happening behind me.
However many, probable most, listers are younger than me and learned
to drive with door mirrors so that will be a natural location. Looks
are great and I love the look of our car with the fender mounts but
the arrangement that gives you the greatest safety should be the
first priority.
