Grab the belt and turn it so you can see the side that rides in the groove of
the pully. If it looks like it has small cracks in the rubber and/or appears
glazed (shiney) then you might want to replace it. I've never done one on a
late Midget before but if it's anything like my old 79 Spitfire just loosen the
altenator and the belt should come right off. If the fan shroud is in the way
then remove it, this may mean taking the fan blade off as well. Otherwise it
may just be a little loose and need tighting. Easily solved with a wrench and
prybar. I'm a little rusty guys, did I forget anytrhing?

Recently my 78 Midget has developed an interesting squeal. This only occurs at
4000+ RPM. I can only assume it is the fan belt. Why it would sqeal then and
not other times I am not sure. Belt dressing helps but only for a short while.
Questions:
Is it conceivable that this is something OTHER than the fan belt?
At first glance it appears to be a good size project. Tell me I am wrong,
please.
