Hmmmm.....
I thought they had "shaved" the surface
around a certain turn and the "finish" was
eating up the Michelin's (compound) at a much faster rate than the Bridgestone's
which, while requiring more tire changes
for those teams using Michelins, also raised a real safety concern.
But of course, I missed the issue wherein you must race on what you qualified
on...

Wish they had simply resolved the "problem" with a temporary chicane
around the "questionable" surface, assuming this was a REAL issue for the
Michelins.
