That is "sorta" true. BUT there has to be a current flow. Meaning that
something has to be on.
If you where to just hook gauge up as above = dead battery. IOW, also has
to be in a SWITCHED circuit.

"Kinda" true BUT it does depend on whether the instrument is an INTERNAL or
EXTERNAL shunt unit.
An EXTERNAL shunt unit will "smoke" BADLY is connected your way<G><F><G>!
