More info, please, for those of us who don't really know the real picture
here.
Are you saying there is the occasional splash through a stream of a foot or
so in depth? If so, the main concerns are in not shorting out the ignition.
With the old Jeeps, we used to stop just before the water, pull the fan
belt, drive through and then re-connect the belt. This prevented the fan
blade from splashing water all over the engine compartment. The surgical
gloves to protect the distributor cap also sound like a good idea. Another
issue with the fan belt is that some of the plastic fans, when the bottom of
the blade hits water, the blades form a delightful cone which proceeds to
"core" the radiator, leaving you in need of a radiator "re-core". An
electric fan with a cut-off switch could cover both of these issues nicely.
