Hello Matthew,
removing the battery shouldn't change the polarization of the
generator. you should only have to do that if you are replacing
the generator with another, AND the new one is polarized
"backwards". you will know if its wrong because the the little
red IGNITION light will glow when the car is at fast idle and
get BRIGHTER when you rev the engine.. (battery discharge!!)
that said.... to polarize the generator,
hook up the battery and the generator as per "normal".
take a short piece of wire stripped at both ends
hold one end on the F terminal of the regulator and
sweep the other end of the wire across the D terminal a couple
of times. .. don't rest it there, just kinda wipe it across and
make little sparks.
done...
at least i THINK that's right... wait a day or two, and someone
will correct me if i'm wrong... PAUL A?
