Chuck,

I'm a little miffed that the shop didn't catch it.  I basically presented 
the block and pistons to him and asked him to check them out and measure 
them.  He told me they were all okay, so I asked him to just hone out the 
cylinders.  I didn't notice the groove when I took the block to him.

I'd estimate that the groove is about 0.003" deep.  The cylinders are 
currently 0.030" overbored.  I didn't get the block back down to the shop 
today, but will do so tomorrow, and I'll let everyone know what happens.
