I have seen 2 examples of things lost in translation from English to
Japanese over the years...

There's a keyboard manufacturer in Japan called Korg. There's a USA copr
that sells it called Korg USA.

Korg had a keyboard called the "M1"

They asked Korg USA what to call the next generation. Korg USA responded
..." Call it the "M10".

The Japanese read the fax upside down and named the product the "O1W"
(true story)

In another instance, in the early Japanese translation of manuals to
English..., the translation for assembling the stand to the keyboard should
have read..."Screw the adjustable leg into the base of the keyboard".
The Japanese took a more literal translation, and the manual was printed and
delievered for the Christmas holidays... "F*ck the legs...."

Who remembers the Mountain Dew ad on TV some years back with a cute
little yellow car as the main character?
Once Mountain Dew learned THAT car was a "Sprite" they yanked the ad.
