Following is the message I posted to the Philly MG Club list following
the annual Fall MG vs TR Rallye.
------------Forwarded Message-----------
In spite of the chilly weather about 18 intrepid teams showed up for
the annual fall MG vs TR rallye in Lahaska, PA this AM. There were a
grand total of 3 MG teams, the rest of the teams were fielded by the
dreaded opposition. The MG's were represented by Mark M and John
(missed the last name), and Lester (I am unsure of the last name) and
daughter, (both in MGB's) and Theresa (I better damn well know the last
name) and I (In the trusty Midget). After the brief, but informative
Driver/Navigator meeting, we set out on the Rallye course.
Of course we had the top down, even though it was a bit cooler than the
limit set in Theresa's vows. We drove around eastern Bucks for about an
hour and a half, then crossed the River into NJ. All the while on some
great country roads. After a few turns at the beginning of the rallye
we began to see cars going in the opposite direction on some of the
roads. We were pretty sure we know where we were, but began to wonder.
Especially since we had missed one of the first clues. Soon it became
obvious that the sneaky conniving RallyMasters had created more than
one route. So there was little point to following the guy in front of
you, as you knew he was gonna make a wrong turn.
After driving into NJ we stopped at a park, that had restrooms (Theresa
says "Hear that Steve??") and proceed to a brief LBC Olympics. There
was guess at how much 2 quarts was (in case you had to add that to your
radiator), a jar that you had to guess how many nuts of various kinds
were in (267, in case you were wondering), a Throw away the parts (3
buckets, from smaller [farther away] to larger [closer] with high
[farther] and low [closest] points, and a cone you had to back up to.
You earned points based on how close or far you were from the various
goals. (Wonderful Tie Breaker!!!!) After the brief rest, we headed out
on the roads again and ended up at Jimmies on Rt 29 in Titusville, NJ.
There the scores were tabulated whilst we grabbed a bite to eat of some
decent roadside fare. Well when all was counted out, the MG's did quite
well. Mark M and John brought home 3rd, and Theresa and your humble
correspondent brought home the Lucas Cup. (well we didn't actually
"bring the Cup home" as I forgot to grab it from Larry Fazio before the
Rallye).
We this being October and the Fall Rallye, it could not go by with out
a bit of hassle. First, the TR club brought no plaques for any places
(not sure why). Second we did not have the Lucas Cup to present. and
Third that fabulous "Cock O' the Walk" trophy. I pointed out that the
Lucas Cup was never intended as a "Team" trophy and by Tradition, it is
won by the First Place Driver/Navigator Pair. (Stan, the guy that
planned last years Rallye, was there, and insisted the Lucas Cup as a
Team cup, until I explained it to him ;-) Well they insisted we also
take the Cock O' the Walk. So we have that here and I will wait with
bated breath for Larry to get us the Lucas Cup with Our Name on it for
the Second Time (Well this time Theresa has a more proper name ;-).
Note there was no raised voices or issues about the trophy's I just had
to point out that the Lucas Cup, by Tradition, goes to the Rallye
Winner. (I actually think the DVT should take the CO'tW and have it as
a TR club Trophy to be presented for the best TR finish). We may want
to discuss a Team trophy, but we would need to have a joint discussion,
and a fair scoring method for that.
Congrats to Mark and John, and WHEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
