I was working on one of my R/C toys today. Finally got around to making a new
motor mount for an air boat. Instead of pushing like a conventional air boat,
it pulls like an airplane using a prop facing forward. Well, I got it all put
back together and decided to fire it up... It started pretty easily and was
running well. It idled a little high but that is just a matter of adjusting the
throttle linkage.
I went to adjust the fuel needle as it seemed a little lean... It would die on
fast throttle up. I reached for the adjustment needle and promptly got my
knuckle in the prop! Wow, that woke me up!!! Hurt like hell too. A trip to the
ER and a bunch of stitches later, I finally got to eat dinner. Instead of going
back to work Moday from a 3 week vacation, I'll be off at least a week and
probably two.
The part that really pi$$e$ me off is that I have played with these things for
14 years now without incident other than crashing a few airplanes. I was
stone-cold sober when this happened too! If I woulda had some beers or
something I could take it a little easier...
So anyway, when you are under your Spridget doing the same thing that you have
done a hundred times before, Be Carefull! It is the routine stuff that will
bite you. I've been a cop for 27 years and have never gotten hurt this bad on
the job because I am always wary. The minute that you let your guard down...
