The bolt is at the column to the rack pinion.... right at the
rack. It is a pinch bolt that runs perpendicular to the column pinching the
column onto the pinion splines and it also fits into a groove in the
pinion. Everyone should replace, or check this bolt. It needs to be a
hardened bolt. It will wear from play and eventually no longer be kept
captive in the groove.
I had the column come off after a fast left-hander and lost my
steering. The driver's seat went Autumn leaf. I later drilled and pinned
the column and the pinion. I'm not recommending that, necessarily, but "it
worked for me".
