You haven't missed much at all but I believe your engine is freshly
rebuilt? And
if this is so, it's bound to run a little warmer now than it will later
on when it
"loosens up" a bit.
Something most people don't do (and which they definitely should
initially) is check the accuracy of their water temp.
gauge against another. I know mine runs
5+ degrees hot around 180F (it's cooler
than is indicated) when check against
my mechanic's master (calibrated).
BTW...you don't mention an indicated
temperature or an ambient temperature
at which you define "running hot", and
under what circumstances through I
am assuming in the later case, cruising
along in top gear at 3 grand or so.
