I put it down to fashion, or marketing.
Certainly in the UK the fashionable colours have changed over the years.
THere was a time when almost every new car in the UK was white. Then this
became too common and blue prevailed for a while before red took over.
After this came dark greens and blues, and then only lately does it seem
that every new car sold is silver.
