Thanks to all for the suggestions. I tried a pair of snap ring pliers
with the flat ends that are made for the c-clip type rings and pulled it
right out. It crumbled as it came out since it was so worn it was paper
thin.
New clutch in, tranny bolted on.
May pull the head and look inside to what's been going on topside. See
how the cylinders look and see if they will clean up or need a bore. Put
on some new valve stem seals and a head gasket and live with what we
have another summer.
