This brings up a favorite story I love to tell from time to time, but this will
involve alot of typing.....
While in high school in 79, my dad was selling insurance for Mutual of Omaha. He
won a trip to Orlando, to Disney World. Since the parents didn't want me or my
sister at home alone, we got to go. I had a stoner friend at school, who had
just moved here from Orlando, and he tells me that when I get to Fl., call up an
old girlfriend of his, and tell her hey. Maybe even see about hooking up, if
time permitted. So with her phone # in my pocket, I head off to the land of
sand.
My mom had other plans. An old high school chum of hers from New Egypt NJ lived
in Fl as well. So that weekend, we were scheduled to go to church with them. Of
course, I got stuck with her daughter for the youth service.
Hang on, this is going somewhere............
For those of you that don't know, Disney World does NOT sell Dr. Pepper (the
state drink of Texas) Needless to say, I easily talked the daughter into
skipping church and going down to the local store for a DP, and then we headed
back to her place. She went to change, and I asked to use the phone. I explained
that I wanted to call someone for a friend and tell them hey. I dialed the
number, but the line stayed dead. I tried it again, but it clicked a few times,
and still nothing. I hollered to the girl that her phone wasn't working. She
came out, wearing just a little.........
sorry, that is ANOTHER story.
She asked if the number was long distance. I tell her I have no idea, I don't
live here, how would I know what is and isn't long distance. She says, give me
the number, let me see. I give her the #, and she looks at me with shock on her
face. She says, "where did you get MY phone number at?"
THAT is a true story, I flew halfway across our nation, with ONE number to call.
I go to Orlando, and the first time I try and call that number, I am IN the
house I want to call..............
