If I recall correctly, Bill Perry of Rivergate fame has a procedure for this using one of the "gasket in a tube" type of products. He was very specific about the exact product to use and the correct way of doing it, but since my cars have the later Triumph (?) steering rack it was not relevant and I have flushed all of the data except the source.
