I was willing to live & let live until they ate my new tonneau cover. The
most effective preventative that I have found is a product called "Just One
Bite". It should be available in most feed stores. It comes in both bars,
which are good for both mice and rats, and a pelleted packet for mice. I
prefer the bars, because other animals don't eat them. Put several under
your cars, and toss them along the walls, especially near any small
openings. Another option is a well fed barn cat, preferably female, or a
feral cat that someone live trapped. Surprisingly, they hunt better when
they are fed.
