Ammeters look very period all right. However, they aren't much use if you
convert to an alternator (voltmeter will do you more good then) and remember
that you have to run a hefty cable to the back of the ammeter and back out
of the passenger compartment again. Ammeters are pretty useless unless they
sit in effect between your generator and your battery so they can actually
monitor the current flowing. That is a lot of current to risk shorting out
behind the dash.
