Hi all,
My Midget 1500 has developed a strange jerkiness. It's hard to put into
words, but I'll try. When moving along, there are random, intermittent
jerks. Each one lasts a split second, and is really quite violent in
that the car slows. It's almost like someone slamming the brakes on, in
feel. But I guess that could be down to engine braking, which I find
quite high on this car. I don't hear any backfiring.
I _think_ I've noticed it a couple of times at idle, but can't confirm
that. I do need to investigate further to narrow down when it happens.
I thought it could be a fuelling thing as I do think the revs drop.
Wonder if the PO replaced it in an attempt to sort it out. Here's a
list of what I've pondered so far:
Fuel pump - but it looks newish.
Carbs - these could most probably do with a rebuild and tune.
Miss - again, I wouldn't be surprised, but does a miss manifest itself
so violently?
The other thing to point out is that since the car got hot, it's running
at 1/4 temp max now, as the thermostat got stuck open (I assume).
I'd appreciate any comments, sorry for being so vague, but it does seem
fairly random at the moment.
